Where is the love when it comes to marriage?
Marriage is a sacred vow between a man and woman under god. The bible quotes, “22
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he
brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and
flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of
man." 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be
united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” (Genesis 2:22-24 NIV). True
love isn’t what it seems to be when a man beats his wife on their wedding night
after failing to get her dress off. Newlyweds,
Amy Dawson and Gavin Golightly, hosted a beautiful wedding and ended the
perfect with a case of domestic abuse. Ian Horswill, from New York Post, stated
“Dawson received a cut above her left eye and bruises to her face and chest”
(Horswill). Dawson claims Golightly had been intoxicated, but that doesn’t
excuse his schizophrenic attack to the mother of his child. Dawson commented on
the incident stating, “When he lashed out at me on my wedding night, I thought
I was going to die. I was terrified. He looked like he was going to kill me.”
That doesn’t sound like a loving husband or man of integrity. Society frowns
upon domestic abuse, and has had enough reports on it to send abusers to jail
for a very long time. His actions were morally and ethically unacceptable due
to the fact that he knew his drink was a problem before and a man should never
put hands on a woman, especially his wife. The bible quotes, “18 Wives, submit
to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives and
do not be harsh with them” (Colossians 3:18-19 NIV).
